Unrealistic expectations placed on the "Strong Black Woman" take a toll. Tap into your softer side with self-care
Like a lot of Black women, we are professionals, caretakers, mothers, partners, daughters, sisters, friends, and co-workers to those around us. Those relationships give our lives richness and meaning. But, like many of us, the emotional demands of the last few years have taken a toll – on mind, body and spirit.
Black Women are often praised for having saved the day in many national situations, or by the boss for keeping the company afloat, or in countless ways by our friends and family. But all this #BlackGirlMagic drains us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Black Women are the ones who never need a break, never freeze, never give up or give in. The one expected to work twice as hard to get half the pay, accolade, and time in the limelight or sunshine. With all that expectation and weight, when do you get time for yourself?
I mean, who can, without fail:
• Live up to the stress to be all things to all people?
• Be invincible to pain and suffering?
• Constantly pour into others when the tank is running low.
What is self-care for Black women?
Everyone should practice self-care! Taking an active role in taking care of your own well-being is paramount. But self-care for Black women is more than taking a yoga or spin class (though highly beneficial) or getting a mani-pedi (though we should treat ourselves as the budget allows).
We should always strive to eat as healthily as we can, get more rest, be in tune with our softer side, and allow downtime to be our friend.
But there are other things that we, as Black women, need for healing and excellent health. To be whole we must affirm for ourselves our worth in a world that doesn’t often see it.
I’ll show you how self-care can be:
1. A cultural fit
2. Boundary management
3. A spiritual connection to God
So, join me for this eye-opening look at self-care for Black women.

Join us for a virtual event on Christian meditation. In this session, we will explore the ancient practice of Christian meditation, which is rooted in the Scriptures. We will learn how to quiet our minds and hearts, and enter into a deeper communion with God. We will also share some tips and resources to help you start or sustain your own meditation practice.
Meditation is one of the essential spiritual disciplines for all believers. The renewing of the mind, as mentioned in Romans 12:2, is part of the process by which the word of God accesses the soul and spirit with the light of illumination and the power of change. In this stillness we find God.
What is the stillness of God? Stillness is the place we find the divine presence. It's the place where God talks to us, calms us, and helps us to reset.
So join me as I remind you (teach others) how to use this powerful practice to be closer to God and be more empowered in our lives.
Whether you are new to meditation or have some experience, this event is for you. Come and discover the peace and joy that God offers us in the stillness of his presence.
